La Palma will surprise you. Whenever you are looking for tranquility, this Canary Island will enchant you with its magnificent nature. It is no coincidence that La Palma is also called La Isla Bonita. Here you will enjoy complete silence overlooking the sea from your balcony and exceptional beauty when you reach the top of the Roque de los Muchachos (2426 m). La Palma is a hidden gem. A place full of energy that enchants you upon your first visit.

La Palma – la Isla Bonita

Pure living

The hospitable locals, delicious food, beautiful volcanic sandy beaches and spectacular starry skies; it will make your holiday unforgettable. Add to this a stay in one of our unique holiday homes on La Palma and the experience is truly complete. Milka van Dam – Springer (General Manager Netherlands & Belgium at Travel Counsellors) stayed with us in one of the beautiful homes with her family and tells us about her experience.

Exceeded expectations

Milka: ‘With my family I celebrated our sun holiday on La Palma. We didn’t quite know what to expect beforehand, but the island surprised us enormously. This island distinguishes itself by its lack of mass tourism. The authentic island life is still very much alive here. Because La Palma used to be the last stop between Europe and South America to cross the ocean by boat, most Palmeros, as the inhabitants of La Palma are called, have their roots in South America. You feel this in everything: the mentality, passion, food and music; Salsa and Merengue are all around.’

Paradise in the sun

‘Staying in one of Casita Travel’s holiday homes is the perfect way to enjoy the peaceful island life. The houses offer space and comfort, a relaxing retreat and locations that are perfect for exploring the island. We had a wonderful holiday on La Palma, in part because the holiday home was so good. It really exceeded our expectations. ‘

Hotspots of La Palma

When asked what things you really must experience while being on La Palma, Milka answers the following: ‘The landscape is extremely varied; green forests, mountains, springs, volcanoes, sandy and rocky beaches, a bit of everything. The many beautiful spots on this island are diverse and are the perfect starting point for a fun day trip. During a holiday on La Palma, these are my top three places to visit.

1. Lively villages
On the west coast, you find the lively villages of Puerto Tazacorte and Puerto Naos. Both have a boulevard, nice taverns, shops and a volcanic sandy beach that is the perfect place to pass some time. At weekends, these villages are bustling, mainly with locals; they dine extensively at lunch and dinner, and in between take a refreshing swim in the sea.

2. Fine dining
For really good food, you must check out the restaurant Bodegon Tamanca in El Paso. Entirely carved out of a cave and with a floor covered with large pebbles, the restaurant has a unique ambience. It serves delicious meat dishes, their own local wines and fine beers. Highly recommended.

3. Beaches
Below Puerto Naos there are two much smaller beaches: El Remo and Charco Verde. Charco Verde’s sandy beach is very popular partly because the sea here is excellent for swimming. El Remo is a pebble beach with hardly any sand; mainly rocks and high waves. Ideal for daredevils who want to jump off the rocks, but you can also snorkel and dive here. At both beaches you will find very simple taverns. But make no mistake: the fish comes straight from the sea and is delicious.

Last but not least

The Palmeros love their barraquito; a small glass with condensed milk, Liquor 43, coffee and cream. Whether in the morning, afternoon or evening, barraquito is available anytime, anywhere. When you look out over the black beach with this drink in your hand and you watch the sun sink into the sea with South American music in the background and fresh fish on the table… life isn’t all that bad!’
