National Park Timanfaya
Are you seeking an active trip? Then visit the Timanfaya National Park. This is the main attraction of Lanzarote. Here you will discover everything about the volcanic, lunar landscape of unparalleled beauty. The national park consists of a number of volcanoes with enormous lava fields. Driving through the park is an unreal experience. Along the way, you will encounter volcano tops in red, orange, yellow and blue and you will also see intriguing rock formations; the scenery is simply breathtaking!


La Graciosa
La Graciosa is one of the smaller Spanish islands in the archipelago of the Canary Islands, located 2 km north of the island of Lanzarote. A boat ride of only 25 minutes takes you from Órzola in Lanzarote to La Graciosa. La Graciosa has snow-white sandy beaches with an azure blue sea. In Caleta de Sebo you can rent a jeep with a driver who shows you the whole island. Mountain bikes are also available for rent. But be warned; cycling is not easy!


La Geria
Grab the car and go on a wonderful route trip. Drive through the pitch-black lava landscape of La Geria and marvel at how the wine is grown here. Put on the walking shoes and walk one of the many marked easy walking routes. Blooming pink bougainvillaea and white houses stand out against a black background. You will keep taking pictures of your beautiful surroundings.


Cuevas de los Verdes
The Cueva de los Verdes is a cave system with a lava tunnel on the Spanish island of Lanzarote. The tunnel with a length of 6 km runs from the crater of the volcano La Corona to the coast at Jameos del Agua. In some places it is fifty meters high and fifteen meters wide.


César Manrique
César Manrique was a Spanish painter, architect and construction consultant. His style can be seen as non-figurative, in balance with the surrounding nature. Many buildings and projects on the island of Lanzarote such as Mirador del Río, Jameos del Agua, Jardín de Cactus as well as the restaurant El Diablo in the Timanfaya National Park and the hotel Gran Meliá Salinas in Costa Teguise are among his works. Manrique made sure that most buildings on Lanzarote are built no higher than four floors, that they were mainly white and very light in colour and that the window frames were painted green, blue or brown.


Jardín de Cactus
The Cactus Garden, built in an old quarry in the north of the island, is a creation of César Manrique. Designed in the shape of an amphitheatre, the garden is made up of more than 10,000 cacti from all over the world, along with beautiful volcanic rock sculptures.
Beaches


Playa Grande
The resort of Puerto del Carmen has several fine golden sand beaches. The largest and most popular beach is Playa Grande, which is located on the pleasant boulevard full of bars, restaurants and shops .. At the end of the boulevard you arrive at the quiet and child-friendly Playa de Pocillos. Various sunbeds and umbrellas are available for rent on these beaches.


Playa de Pocillos
A relatively less crowded beach in Puerto del Carmen is Playa de Pocillos where you have plenty of space. After arriving at the beach, you will find a beautiful, more than a kilometre long and extremely wide area of light, fine sand. It is very shallow and the gentle swell is ideal for swimming.


Playa de Matagorda
The Playa de Matagorda stretches for several hundred meters on the east coast of Lanzarote and is easy to find. It is located near the airport and in Puerto del Carmen and scores, especially, with its large, clear sandy area.


Playa de las Cucharas
Playa de las Cucharas is centrally located in the well-known city Costa Teguise and is very popular, especially amongst windsurfers. The waves are perfect for windsurfing, which is why the Playa de las Cucharas is also very popular amongst the locals. In July there is an annual championship, which draws a large number of fans and spectators to the beach.


Playa Quemada
Playa Quemada is located directly on the village of the same name in the southeast of the island, close to Puerto Calero. Playa Quemada is the so-called 'burnt beach'. Playa Quemada is mainly known amongst the locals. If you want to escape the Canarian wind for a while, you can relax in this pleasant and protected place.


Playas del Papagayo
Playa de Papagayo actually consists of several small beaches, hidden between the lava rock. The sand is soft, the water is crystal blue and there is a small beach restaurant if you would like to cool down. This is a great place to go hiking or snorkelling. Playa Papagayo looks like you are looking at a postcard.

Submarine Lanzarote
If you really want to do something special with the children, take a trip on the Lanzarote submarine. This boat takes you to the beautiful underwater world. On the way, a diver will leave the boat and sprinkle some food along the windows, the most special fish will pay a visit. So don't forget to bring your photo camera.


Minigolf
If you like mini golf, then Lanzarote is the place for you. Everywhere you will find a miniature golf course. The most beautiful can be found in the Biosfera shopping center, which is built entirely in Jurrasic park style. You will also find an open-air cinema next to the miniature golf course. In the evening, several films run.
Sports


Snorkelling and Diving
Lanzarote is still one of the best diving locations in Europe. Marine life offers great variety and the Atlantic Ocean is clean and clear. The best dive spots are Puerto del Carmen, Playa Blanca and Puerto Calero. Do you want to learn how to dive? Then there are several good diving schools available, such as Dive College Lanzarote in Playa Blanca and Safari Diving in Puerto del Carmen.


Surfing
Lanzarote is one of the best surfing spots in the world thanks to the trade winds. Caleta de Famara, in particular, is popular amongst surfers, windsurfers and kite surfers. The wind and waves are perfect, especially in the summer months. Other popular surfing beaches are Playa de los Pocillos and Playa Grande in Puerto del Carmen and Playa de Chucharas in Costa Teguise. There are several surf schools for beginners, such as the popular Surf School Lanzarote at Playa de Famara.
Paddleboarding
Do you want to discover the beautiful places of Lanzarote? Discover Lanzarote in a special way, by paddleboarding! It is a very popular activity in Lanzarote. Paddleboarding, also known as supping, is a form of wave surfing. In this sport, you stand on a large wave surfboard with a minimum length of three meters and you use a paddle. Playas Papagayo is the perfect place for paddleboarding.


Golf
Lanzarote has two golf courses. The golf course in Costa Teguise has 18 holes (par 72) and is located in a challenging rugged environment. All holes offer a beautiful view of the ocean. Besides all that, there is also the Lanzarote Golf Resort. Lanzarote Golf Resort is located near Puerto del Carmen and has 18 holes (par 72). Golf lessons are available in many shapes and sizes for young, old, beginner or advanced.


Mountainbiking
Lanzarote is a paradise for mountain bikers. The rugged landscape, consisting of many hills and lava areas, makes the island an ideal trail. At the end of 2009, a route was set up for mountain bikers that goes around the island. The total length of the route is over 205 km. It is divided into sections of about 40 km in length. These partial routes have different levels of difficulty. Signs indicate both the route and the difficulty of the ride.


Water sports
Various water sports can be practised on Lanzarote. Lanza Canoa rents out kayaks for a solo or guided tour. If you are a sailing enthusiast, you have come to the right place in Lanzarote. You can rent sailboats of all shapes and sizes all year round, such as at Aventura Plus in Puerto Calero. If you like something more extreme, you can, for example, go jet skiing, parasailing or flyboarding via Pracraft Lanzarote.


Going for a walk
Walking is a good way to discover the landscape of Lanzarote. It is one of the best ways to enjoy the landscape full of contrasts: shadowy forests, volcanic areas, sharp cliffs, sand dunes or places with jungle character. Everywhere on the island, you will find walking paths. From beach promenades to goat paths, there are many short walking routes.

At Amura you can enjoy delicious tapas at noon. In the evening you can order food from the dinner menu and if you are willing to spend a little more, you can enjoy a 5-course menu. Amura is beautifully located at the end of the harbour. The restaurant is located in the village of Puerto Calero.


Cantina Teguise
Restaurant Cantina is located in a historic building in the heart of Lanzarote in Teguise, the oldest town in the Canary Islands and the island's cultural centre. Here you can taste great traditional Spanish tapas as well as various vegetarian dishes. Very tasty and an absolute must!


Levain
Would you like to have breakfast, brunch or lunch somewhere? Then you've come to the right place at Levain. Levain is located in Thaiche on Avenida Nestor De La Torre 22. They offer delicious cakes and freshly made sandwiches. Levain is of the few bakers where you can get firm brown bread. They also serve a good cappucino or a latte.


Rafa Restaurante de Mar
Rafa Restaurante de Mar is located in the town of El Golfo. Rafa Restaurante de Mar is specialized in fish dishes. They serve fresh fish daily, that they bought at the market the same day. The fish is filleted at your table. Rafa Restaurante de Mar also serves the best paella in all of El Golfo. You must have tasted this. Enjoy your meal from the terrace with a beautiful sea view.


Restaurante Salmarina Playa Quemada
Restaurante Salmarina is located in Playa Quemada. At this restaurant, they specialize in delicious fish dishes. In addition to the fish dishes, they also serve paella and meat. While you enjoy your delicious dish, you also have a phenomenal view of the sea.


La Bodega de Santiago
Bodega de Santiago is a 200-year-old house converted into a restaurant in 2005 in memory of Santiago Eugenio. They provide top quality meals using national and international products. You can enjoy a delicious dinner under the beautiful tree. This high quality restaurant is located in the town of Yaiza and is definitely worth a visit!


Beach Bar Luca
This great Beach Bar is located next to the white sandy beach Playa de Las Cucharas. Here they make delicious cocktails from fresh fruit. During the weekends, there is often a band playing music. The beach (650 meters) is surrounded by gardens and a beautiful promenade. After a day at the beach, this Beach Bar is the ideal place to relax.
Villages


Arrecife
The capital Arrecife has a number of museums that are very worthwhile. But if you want to stroll through the many nice streets and enjoy shopping, that is also possible here. Enjoy a tapas on the way at one of the many tapas restaurants.
Teguise
Not to be confused with the seaside resort of Costa Teguise. Teguise is amazing; a town with a rich history. The town is descended from the early fifteenth century and was the capital of Lanzarote until 1852. The village is designed in an attractive Andalusian style. There is a market on Sundays in Teguise. The market starts in the morning at 9 a.m. and ends at 2 p.m.
El Golfo
El Golfo is the village that is located at the former El Golfo volcano. El Golfo is a fishing village. A few hundred meters from the village of El Golf is a poisonous green lake: Lago Verde. The name says it all because it means nothing more or less than 'green lake'. It is originated in an old crater, that is why the water is still supplied underground to the lake.
Yaiza
Yaiza is considered one of the most beautiful villages in Lanzarote. Most of the houses in Yaiza are white with green windows and doors. The main square is the village square Plazoleta de Victor Fernández where the eighteenth-century church is located: Nuestra Señonpra de los Remedios. To have a nice view of the village, you can climb the stone stairs that can be found near the bus parking areas. From there you will experience a beautiful view over Yaiza.
Haría
The village of Haría is located in the north of the island of Lanzarote. If you follow the route from the south towards Mirador del Río, you will automatically encounter the village. Haría is located in the Valley of the Thousand Palms. And yes, that's right! There are not thousands, but dozens in and around Haría. Like all villages on Lanzarote, it is mainly the colour white that determines the street scene. On Saturdays, there is a market in Haría. The 'Mercado de Artesania Tradicional' is held every Saturday from 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. in the Plaza Léon y Castillo.
