Editor of this blog is Joyce who, together with her husband Stephan, lives in the white artist village of Altea. Joyce and Stephan are part of the Casita Travel team in Spain, that ensures the best possible holiday experience for our guests.<\/em><\/h4>\n\n\n\n

It will come as no surprise that Altea is my favourite seaside resort in Spain. Before we came to live here, we’d been travelling to this beautiful spot for years, mostly because of the wonderful feeling that Altea gives us. Altea is situated on the Costa Blanca North, in the province of Alicante and about 10 km away from the crowded Benidorm. But Altea is different. It has a friendly atmosphere and a unique appeal. This white village on the Mediterranean has a 6 km long coastline with stunning pebble beaches, sand beaches, bays, clear blue sea and a newly redesigned promenade with fine restaurants, bars and shops. And not least: the sun shines 300 days a year here, making for a pleasant stay all year round.<\/p>\n\n\n

Altea from the sea<\/strong><\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<\/div>\n\n\n

The “old city”, or Casco Antiguo, is beautifully located on a hill, at the foot of Sierre de B\u00e9rnia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is a untouched town with picturesque white houses, old cobbled streets, charming (hidden) plazas, flowers, restaurants, bars, narrow streets and views to remember.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The landmark is the blue dome of the church Nuestra Se\u00f1ora del Consuelo, that rises above everything else, making for a magnificent view when the sun shines on the blue roof tiles. And definitely go inside if you like churches. It’s a bit of a walk with lots of stairs, but is more than worth it.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

5 restaurant tips from Joyce<\/strong><\/h3>\n\n\n\n

Altea has a myriad of great restaurants. From authentic tapas bars and accessible restaurants to modern lounges and luxurious hotel and restaurant establishments for the real connoisseurs. These are my 5 favorite restaurants:<\/p>\n\n\n\n

1.<\/strong> Restaurant Oustau de Altea, Carrer Major 5, Altea, (in the \u2018\u2019old centre\u2019\u2019)<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

My favorite! This French restaurant is located in a small street, which gives it the perfect, cozy and romantic ambiance. The restaurant is of very high quality (Michelin 2021). Whether you sit indoors, on the outdoor terrace or in one of the patio’s, all areas are very tasty decorated with plants, trees, flowers and beautifully set tables. Don’t forget to make a reservation though, it’s very popular. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

2. Restaurant L\u2019Olleta, partida la Olla, 25, Villa Gadea Urbanizacion, 03590<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

The sea views in this Mediterranean restaurant are astonishing. A great location and very tastefully decorated. Especially in the evening, with lights dangling between the palm trees and the moon reflecting on the sea, giving everything a silver glow. You can enjoy these gorgeous views from indoors as well as outdoors. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

3.<\/strong> Chiringuito El Cranc, Playa de la Olla, Altea<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eating on the beach! This location just shouts holiday joy. A Spanish cuisine with fish and seafood. This restaurant serves both lunch and dinner, but just a drink is of course also possible. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

4.<\/strong> La Cena by Nola, partida del Mediterraneo 20, Altea<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Summery, comfortable and a relaxing atmosphere. That’s the perfect way to describe this Mediterranean restaurant. The interior is very attractive, Ibiza Style! The restaurant has a great location on the boulevard of Altea!<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Eating tapas in a cozy, informal place; what more do you want? This typical, small-scale Spanish restaurant serves delicious Mediterranean and Spanish dishes.<\/p>\n\n\n
